11 Plus Exams Berks

Entry Procedures for Berkshire Grammar Schools

  • There are six grammar schools in Berkshire.
  • Slough Area (4 schools)

There are three schools in the Slough Consortium:

Entry is by examination only. No catchment policy operates in any of these schools. The examination consists of three NFER multiple-choice papers (mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning). Children sit the examination in November of year 6.

External candidates who are outside of the main catchment areas in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire sit it on the first Saturday in November.

Internal candidates sit the exam on the Thursday before in their own primary schools.

Applications are made to the schools directly, but schools are to be listed in preference order on the Slough Consortium form. A score of 111 is needed to be eligible for a grammar school place but preference is given to higher scores when oversubscribed.

Slough Grammar (Foundation – co-ed.) – 145 places Language + Sciences specialist

Entry is by examination only. Again no catchment policy operates in this school. The examination will consist of three NFER multiple-choice papers (mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning).

Children sit the examination in the November of Year 6.

To register to take the 11+ examination for Slough Grammar you will need to complete a Slough Grammar School 11+ registration form (obtainable from the school) and return it by the published deadline.

In addition to this you will need to complete your Local Authority Common Application Form (CAF). You must get your CAF form from your LEA’s Education Department.

You will receive detailed information about the examination arrangements immediately after the closing date for applications.

Application Deadline – Friday 5th October 2007.

Children at Primary schools in Slough will sit the Slough Grammar School examination on Saturday 3rd November 2007.

Children at primary schools outside Slough will sit the Slough Grammar school examination on Saturday 10th November 2007.

Results for all Grammar schools in Slough will be available in early December. If your child has reached the pass mark (usually 111) he/she will be eligible for a place at Grammar school. There is no guarantee of a place as places will be allocated according to children’s test scores and there may be more children passing the test than there are places available.

All firm offers of places at schools will be made by your Local Authority on 1st March 2008.
