Authors after Lemony Snicket

DD absolutely loves this author, but has unfortunately finished the series. Can anyone recommend 'similar' authors. We tried the Just William series but DD couldn't 'get into it'

The trouble I have with DD is that she starts several books and discards them before the end of the first chapter  . Lemony Snicket books seem to get her attention really quickly, perhaps the story has a fast pace? But she'll literally finish one of these books over a weekend!

If anyone has ideas of what to try next - I would be most grateful.

Has she read 'Who could that be at this hour?' or 'when did you see her last?' Try Am*zon.

My dd did not get on with Lemony Snickett but I read them all and enjoyed them.
How about:
Pseudonomous Bosch - secret series.
Trenton lee Stewart : The mysterious Benedict Society.
The 39 clues - various authors including Rick Riordan,
The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Ridell,
Angie Sage - Magyk

thanks dc17c

also, how important is it that DC read the classics? I hear over and over again that it's really important to try to cover some of them at least. Think we're going to fail miserably here. Does it really impact them if they don't cover the classics at all?

DD will listen to the audio or watch the DVD, but I don't see her reading Oliver Twist or Little Women?

"Skulduggery Pleasant"

just read the first paragraph online and it's right up DD's street. :) Getting this one to start with and then working our way through the suggestions on this thread.
