any helpful tips

Hello, my 13 year old ds has always found English difficult. The latest comments from his end of year English paper suggest the following. He needs to develop depth and detail in his writing also quality of his written work. I would really like to help him during the summer holidays does any one have any suggestions for the above. He attends the local comp many thanks

The most immediately obvious thing I can think of is to try to encourage him to read more, so he sees more examples of written English in different genres. If you ask his school's English department they may be able to provide a reading list. Your local library should have ideas too. And there are various threads on here with suggested reading material for different age-groups.

Many thanks for your reply. Today I purchased How it Works a magazine full of interesting topics ranging from history, science and technology I'm hoping this will trigger his interest.
