The practice papers on sale in the shops for GL English include a type where you have to spot punctuation errors. Does this question type ever come up in the real tests in any area? In Kent in 2014 ths question type was not included. Think it's too early to say whether it ws included in 2015 or not but I'm wondering if perhaps it is never included anywhere? Or that maybe because CEM does not include punctuation questions GL may prefer not to use them now?

Absolutely it does at QE and probably elsewhere. It follows the exact format. DG

Ah thank you. How are they avoiding the problem of it all turning out "too easy" at QE I wonder. Kent had a strange experience last year with the GL English (but we only have about 30 mins so it must all be a bit potted) where there was loads of time to spare and the raw score to pass was much higher in English than the other papers, and also the top standardised score in English was lower than in the other three papers. It all seemed a bit barmy as one could have failed the whole test in the first 30 mins by making a small number of careless slips in English - which for an authority taking the top 25% is a strange way to assess children. If the same test had been used at QE it would probably have been a disaster and impossible to find a reasonable "cut-off" as loads would have been clustered together around 100% raw score!
