Can anyone please advise on the correct way to mark an English comprehension on the 11+ tests?

Sometimes my son will put down an answer which has exactly the same meaning, but in different words to that on the answer sheet.
Would this be marked as incorrect?

Also sometimes he puts in more than is required, but includes the correct answer as specified on the answer sheet. Any ideas on the marking procedure in this instance?

Any help welcome,

Thanks

B
