Registering Child

Hello everyone,

I've just moved from abroad to a lovely place in Berkshire and my child shall be starting up next week.

She has been reading and her maths is above average so I am looking for her to go on to a grammar school.

So how does it all work with regards to the 11 plus?

Do I have to fill in a form for both Berkshire or Buckinghamshire?

If so where do I get these from?

Thanks

R

P.S. What does DS and DD mean??

darling Son / Darling Daughter.

it depends where in Berkshire you are as to where you will be looking. How old is your DD?

The easy bit first: DD = Dear Daughter, DD = Dear Son.

The harder bit: depending on where you live and your postcode, that will determine which grammar school(s) you may qualify to be in catchment for. There are area sections on this website for Berks and Bucks, so I would go through those and look at the catchment rules (if any) and go from there.

As far as I know, for the Berks grammars, they all have catchment stipulations: Kendrick changed theirs this year so that you had to live in catchment at the time of _applying to do the test_ in order to qualify as "being in catchment". So given the oversubscription of (all of) these schools, you would not be offered a place even if your child had the highest possible score, if you are not in catchment.

Thirdly, how old is your daughter? If she is in year 4 at least, you should try to go to the open days as they come up from now on. To give you plenty of time to consider the various schools and which one might be most suitable for her.

I live in Langley and was thinking of my child going to Langley Grammar School, but then I've heard St Bernards is really good.

I will make up my mind once I've been to a few open days.

So what or if any application forms do I need to fill in for it?

Also what application forms do I need to fill in for Buckinghamshire (the main school I was thinking is Burnham Grammar School).

Thanks,

R

you will need to go and look at the individual websites I think. I would post in the Bucks section for their processes. I only looked at Kendrick in Reading as that is where I live.
