Reading School PAN Number for Yr 7 2016 Entry
This quote has recently appeared on the Reading School admissions page.
Can anyone confirm what this means for the number of Year 7 day places for 2016 entry please, if anything?PLEASE BE AWARE THAT AT THE FULL GOVERNING BODY MEETING IN JULY 2015, THE GOVERNORS AGREED TO INCREASE ITS PUPIL ADMISSION NUMBER (PAN) FOR YEAR 7 ENTRY IN 2016 FROM 124 TO 150

boarding will stay at 12 so that means that there will be 138 places available in yr 7 for 2016 entry instead of 112. I am guessing that this means very few places will be available for yr 9 entry as that used to be the point that the year group jumped to 150.

This thread has a link which might help.

The cohort starting year 7 this sept will also not have a year 9 entry. The previous cohort was the last one where there will be a year 9 entry.
Obviously I think there will still be the odd in year admissions should a boy leave.

Thanks Tinkers.
A little confused, but pleased! - I saw the Reading website too where it mentions that PAN has gone up to 150. I wasn't sure if that meant day or boarders or both, but nonetheless it's a big jump if it has gone up from 112 day places in the 2015 entry to 138 day places in the 2016 entry.
What prompted the increase of 26 places? Any idea?
Thanks

I suspect money.
More students means more funding. I don't think they took that many more at year 9, but I'm not sure. I've never looked at Reading school that closely as I have a daughter.

Previous years were four forms of 28 boys in year 7 increasing to 31 in year 9.
I can only guess that they are now planning five forms of 30 in year 7?
Well done Reading for creating those extra spaces, and yes it's probably budget motivated.

So they will need a New House to add to the very strong current house system?shinfieldmum wrote:They have now also confirmed that there will be 5 classes of 30 students!
Next step I hope is a second site as the rules prohibit new grammar schools but existing can expand, a joint venture with Kendrick would be very popular.
