I do have a question on standardisation - My daughter will be doing the consortioum 11+ on her 11th birthday, is she at a disadvantage?
The standardisation is based on the average of each month in the cohort. Therefore if the average raw score for the November born cohort is higher than the average for say... the Feb born cohort then standardisation applies.
It is always possible that the Nov born cohort will have a lower average than the Feb born........ but studies have shown that there is usually a reduction in raw score the younger the pupil.

I am really in a quandry now with regard to our CAF form. We only get 3 choices on the CAF form, and it seems unlikely that 111 will be enough to gain a place.
My son got in to SGS with 111 in the 2006 admission.

First round offers went out to 113's in the last couple of years... but I do not have any info on what they went down to in subsequent offers.
I do know that some people did get in on appeal with 110.
If you do not get an offer from SGS in the first round then it is possible to lodge an appeal and then cancel it if you do get in subsequently.

Hi Maagi

We had confirmation from Herschel a week or so ago. we had put it as our first choice consortium school. I dont know if Langley have posted theirs yet.

I dropped off the application form at the school on the deadline date, purely because as usual I had left it to the last minute. DS had an inset day that day, and we even had to detour to a shopping centre on the way to find a photo booth.
Just our luck the first 3 booths were all out of order!
When we got to Herschel I had to borrow a pair of scissors to cut the photo out. At least I had taken my own glue. I thought it might look a bit too odd though if I had pulled a pair of scissors out of my handbag.

Thanks Chad, thats re-assuring.

Have you been happy with the school so far? I dont really know much about it. We are about 7 miles from the school, and although my older child ( who has attended our local comp) has a friend who went to SGS, I havent had any feedback or advice, either good or bad.

DS seems very underwhelmed by the whole thing. When I told him this afternoon that he had passed he just wandered off to put the tv on, without even commenting.

I have been very happy with the school so far.......My son has been pushed in Maths & science (his favourite subjects) and cajoled, helped and encouraged with his English (worst subject)... in fact English is now not his worst.....I would say that it is now languages, spanish in his case. The school has language and science specialism but my ds just can't get to grips with words that are not English.
The Maths dept is also excellent.
The Head (Mrs Lenton ) is retiring at the end of the academic year so I would expect that there will be some changes.

I think that we worry far more than our children...... at 11 years old it is much better to be complacent about the whole thing. :D

Hi Maagi, I've had my receipt envelope back a while now. The enclosed letter says that we will be contacted again in due course.

I never thought this day would come. After going through the pain of near-misses with my eldest DD two years ago, appeals and eventual relief at getting a place, I am now the happiest mum on the planet. My youngest DD (only just 10 and so much more laid back than her sister) just pulled the cat out of the bag when she needed it most. VR108 (her weakest) Maths 112 (OK) but NVR 141... OMG 120 standardised! I have dreamt of this and have been the stroppiest person on the planet over the last few weeks.....
My heart goes out to anyone who didn't get the results they wanted.. but persevere... if you want something bad enough- only you can make it happen. I am proof that miracles happen!
I would like to thank everyone who ever lists comments on here, they have all been invaluable, especially Chad, Bewildered, Etienne and Sally-Anne who have been with me through thick and thin. I will be eternally grateful for you help and advice.

son scraped through with 114 which was better than we expected as he was ill on that day and for a few days after. Totally flunked NVR which he'd thought was the easiest paper and scored highest in maths which he'd thought was really hard.
