Dear Parents,
Just wondering if any of you could put the grammar schools in Slough in order of performance/popularity.
We have just moved into this area and my son is doing eleven plus.
Please help

There is not much in it....... Historically Langley has been the best performing (in GCSE & A'level) and has needed a higher mark in the 11plus to gain an offer... it has a Maths/computing status. Herschel (i think) has increased in popularity recently and is also a technology college . Slough is a language college and has added Science to its specialities in the last year.
Both Langley (2007) and Slough (2008 ) have achieved 'outstanding' in their most recent Ofsted inpections ( Grade 1 in all areas) Herschel is due an Ofsted soon.
Hard to compare at A'level as Slough grammar increases its 6th form by taking 50% of its pupils from other schools... usually with lower attainmment at GCSE.....Langley, St Bernards and Herschel (happy to be corrected) do not have such a high intake from outside the school into their 6th form.
Haven't got much info on St Bernards.... but all the grammars regularly get 90% plus Grades A*-C at GCSE
I think you need to see the schools and talk to the teachers.... a school that is seen as the best in League tables etc may not be the school for your child.

In total agreement with Chad :D

Once you've looked at the stats, next comes the leg work. I know many parents who after looking around the school they had originally set their hearts on, from reading the stats, being amazed at their own feelings after actually putting in the leg work and taking their children into account.
