The form will allow parents/carers to name the six* schools that they want to apply for, ranking them in order of preference. It will also allow parents/carers to give reasons for each preference. Preferences may be expressed for any school within or outside Reading, including grammar schools, voluntary aided schools, foundation schools and Academies.

On 1 March 2010, letters will be sent 2nd class post by Reading Borough Council to all parents/carers living in Reading who completed an on-time application, offering a secondary school place for their child in September 2010. Parents/carers who made an online application will be able to view the outcome of their application online from 1 March 2010.
Six choices subject to consultation. I think a step in the right direction. Still trying to find more details on the consultation. :)

More information here,

Most of it only of interest to us in Reading Borough. I was pleased with most of the suggestions, that came as a surprise. :)

Only part affecting Reading & Kendrick,
Kendrick & Reading
10. The arrangements for both these are similar and much as would be
expected for grammar schools. Both could be improved by a clearer
explanation of how the annual ‘cut-off point’ is determined and a broad
indication of the academic standard it represents.
Which seems a step in the right direction!
