Re: Hello! And a question about Cloze tests
Hi Dende and DIYmum
Thank you for your comments! They are really interesting...
The only problem I currently have is that lists of vocabulary to be learnt are everywhere in my house! Without mentioning the list of words to look up in the dictionary!! Do you know the Opera 'Don Giovanni' filmed by Losey, when the servant unfold the list of all the names of Don Giovanni's mistresses? and Leporello sings: 'in Espana, mille tre! mille tre!' (one thousand and three)... Well, that describe very well our lists of vocabulary without ends!!!
Time is a ‘real treasure’ these days and it’s hard to put our hands on it. Hence my reluctance to do too many cloze tests when so much vocab to learn have piled up from our VR tests or reading sessions...
Oh gosh!!! At least, we are enjoying ourselves, that’s the only good thing!

Re: Hello! And a question about Cloze tests
That sounds like my house last year. We put new vocabulary onto index cards and stuck them all over the dining room walls. The advantage - the younger DC picked up as much new vocab as the older 2. The disadvantage - the blue tac removed wall paper as the cards were pulled off. (We are busy re-decorating as I speak )

Good luck then!DenDe wrote: We are busy re-decorating as I speak )
Re: Hello! And a question about Cloze tests
Hello all
I was just enquiring at the type of cloze tests in the Bgham KEGS 11+ exams. Could someone confirm if they are:
1. Complete cloze, (using word bank)
2. Complete cloze, with partially filled in missing words (but no word bank)
3. Complete cloze, (but no word bank) - ie candidate has to derive the missing word themselves
I can see from the sticky that "1" and "2" happen, but does "3" pop up too?

Re: Hello! And a question about Cloze tests
I am not sure anyone can tell you any more than what we know from the sticky. No-one has ever mentioned the third type for KEGS exams. It seems that although they did type 1 clozes earlier, in recent years they have just gone with type 2 clozes.
The problem is that we never know if the year our DC sit the test is going to be the year they decide 'to freshen things up'

Thank you umsusu
I realised from the sticky that it was mostly type 2, but I could never glean whether type 3 actually occurred.
I guess to date it has not been type 3, but we can't tell about the future.
