If I decline a GS , can I get back in? (KES KEFW debate)

Post by ginobellavia »

Still deciding between KES and KFEW. One thing that worries me is if we decide in a year or so (assuming DSs go to KES) that our DSs want to go to KEFW or that the costs for us are no longer viable, can they apply to KEFW and use the test score that they did at 11+?

Does anyone know of the likelihood of moving later?

I believe the test only applies for year-7 entry - entry into anything other than year-7 I think requires a competitive retest organised by the school.

Entry into the 6th form is via a separate process

Think GSs in most places will retest and then have some sort of acceptance based on admission criteria ie if they have space it may go on test score or distance or a child moving into the area from a similar school or whatever

Thanks to both replies. I think it signifies that whilst not impossible to make a move from KES to KEFW mid school, it would be a new ball game and also limited places on offer.

Very limited places - just people moving out of the area, basically.

I've been waiting for the B'ham council website to reappear so I could look up in-year admissions policy for this thread but still no sign. Has anyone any information about why it's down and how much longer it's likely to be out? this is just appalling.

Would it perhaps be easier to move from KEFW to KES? :?

occasionally it can be easier to get into a selective indie later on provided you have done all the latin / greek whatever and probably not after fee assistance. What tends to happen is that more people move into the state sector because of financial concerns - 7 years is a long time to commit to paying fees and all sorts of things can change
