Other area to consider if you don't need to be South of the city is Sutton Coldfield which is blessed not only with good primary and secondary schools but also boys and girls grammar schools. Birmingham proper has some nice areas with a number of very good primary schools but a distinct lack of decent secondary schools, particularly for boys. Harborne is a prime example of this.
