Yes, they definitely do. At the meeting, you'll hear a talk from two of the specialist Math and English teachers (who design the papers).wildwest wrote: What do you mean, the teachers are basing their comments on what they have just set????
Excuse my ignorance, but the school teachers set the paper themselves???
Their comments are more about their innovative approach, and what they are looking for- which is quite interesting. I mean, it kinda felt very 'potterish': the wand choosing the wizard, rather than the other way round, iyswim.
So, in the English section, there should be a long composition and / or a very short one. All areas are tested twice (hence the two exam days), just in case the child has an 'off day'.
They claim that they are not interested in the finished product (i.e. they'll overlook spelling or grammar)...but seem more interested in what the child is trying to say, the dc's potential, and whether they feel the child will benefit from the KEHS experience.

Yes....agree. The lady from the school was explaining to me what is the emphasis when choosing the girls and she said that all they are interested in is
.quality of their English
. Maths ability
Other bits of the exam paper are 'time fillers'
She further explained that they are looking for girls who are
. Confident
. Articulate
. Not shy
. Can cope with the wider work
. Motivated
. Able to grasp concepts easily and develop it further independently
. Confident Public speakers
. Highly creative
. Can present a balanced discussion on any given topic
And etc etc etc
Really, I wondered what the school has got to do, if the girls are already of this caliber...
I am sorry to sound cynical

This is standard. It happens in all of the independent schools, I would imagine. How else would they know what they were looking for? And who do you think draws up the mark schemes? It might be one school, or a group collaborating together, but that is how it is done. Of course.
