It seems to me children from many state schools are at a disadvantage. By the time they get to do the exams they should be operating at level 5 and above. The English and maths is based on the core knowledge and if they are not operating at this level through no fault of their own having not been taught it at school they will lose out. Many are not taught verbal and non verbal reasoning in school.Only parents can make up the gap.
This can all be taught and then practice is required in the style of the exam. It is not tutor proof. The KE foundation wouldn't be doing it if it didn't make a difference. All I would say is p**s poor preparation will equate to p**s poor performance and if you fail to prepare, prepare to fail. This partly explains why 2 out of every 10 children in a state school gets a grammar school place as compared to 7 out of 10 children at a private school.
