Could someone please give me some tips on how to get my daughter motivated towards english.

We have done minimal english papers and im starting to worry now, but everytime i mention an english paper she says "cant i do VR mom".

I have exactly the same problem. DS will do VR/NVR and maths without complaint but you would think I was asking him to commit murder when I ask him to do English. He then rushes to get the paper finished and leaves loads of gaps if a written comprehension or wildly guesses MC (usually incorrectly). The annoying thing is when we talk through it after he can often 'see' the correct answer.

One thing we did try which seemed to help ( a bit) was try a written piece as a family. we all wrote an exam style essay in half a hour and read out our efforts and commented in a non critical way. He quite enjoyed that so it may work if you both try to do the same paper together. Your daughter may enjoy it especially if she gets some questions wrong and you get them right. Beyond that I don't have any suggestions but would be really glad if somebody else could come up wit some brilliant ideas.

To Guest,

Seems we are in the same boat, what you have written is exactly true to our situation!

I will give the writing a go and try anything else i can do but as i said i am getting a little worried and wondering whether i should apply for the KE or not. May be i'll just stick to Sutton Coldfield as they dont have an english paper.

Thanks for posting a reply.
