Starting HGS this September

Hi I have a boy starting HGS and was wondering where you sew the form badge. The letter said to sew it under the school badge, but there isn't much room and surely it's better to sew it above the school badge so it's all on the blazer pocket. Any thoughts from others with boys starting HGS.

What & where is HGS?
Perhaps if this query is posted in the relevant region, then it may get better response.

I put DS1's above the school badge as it it looked more appropriate (and it was easier to get my fingers into :) ). No one said anything and iirc most other boys had done the same.

As tiffinboys suggests, you would usually be better off asking questions about specific schools in the local forum, even if it is post-11+. I was just being especially nosey today and caught your post.

Hi Gbarr,

Our ds starts hgs this year too, still need to buy him a suitable coat and I'm sure there's something else too which I can't remember right now :)

As far as the house name goes, I think in the induction pack it states to have the badge under the school badge. I just gave it all to my mother and let her deal with it
I have seen boys at the school with the name badge above the school badge too, I guess as long as its on there...

Good luck to you and your ds as he starts this new journey :)

Thanks Nasa. I still need to get a coat but I think I will do it in Oct as he is already complaining about all of the layers he will be wearing. DS will be joining Alfred. I managed to sew the badge on under the school badge...Thanks to the secret zip inside the blazer, it made it so much easier. Gosh not long to go now. I must admit I am nervous as he will be using public transport

Snaps, ds is complaining about all the layers too and ds will be in Alfred too :)

I know a few boys that catch the bus from your end, I'll pm you. I was nervous about the bus and so have arranged car share initially but I would like him to uses the buses. DH's plan is first term in the car while he settles and makes friends.

:-) It's made me feel a bit better knowing someone else in Alfred :-D

Would really appreciate the pm as its 3 buses from where I am to the school. Where about will your DS be travelling from?

Knowing someone makes it so much easier as I do feel we will lose touch with other parents as kids will be doing the journey alone.

Have you brought all the bits and bobs he needs?

I think it'd be wise if you checked the west mids travel website it normally gives you the quickest and easiest travel journey, or download the app it's great.

What you may have to do is walk to gorse farm at Scott arms and catch the 7.50am bus no 46 until hamstead and then take 16a check it on here http://www.transportdirect.info/Web2/Ho ... cheparam=3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hope that helps :)

Yep all bits and pieces bought, it's our first child and so the excitement got the better of us :)

Don't stress
