CGP CEM score

Post by mh1 »

Hi

I wonder if you can provide some input.

Im helping a nephew with 11+ plus prep.

Not sure what to make of 1st mock test he completed over the weekend: CGP CEM test paper 1 - he scored 70%.

Any correlation of this score with the actual test?

I do not think it is possible to correlate one test score with performance in the actual exam.
What was his speed like? I find that CGP give far too much time on their tests and papers.
Has he done any other papers? What has his school and teacher said about his performance?

Thanks UM for the response.

One reason I posed the question was that mock exam centres seem to have devised an approximate correlation with their test score with the 11+ exam.

OK by correlation I mean whether child has a high probability of getting in or not... well thats the impression I gathered from reading previous posts in this section.

No I'm afraid our prep started very late as the lazy bones committed very late in the day to the process (past 2 months- of 1.5 hour tuition per week) and despite showing initial enthusiasm focus is not there

He is very able child according to teachers , has won consecutive trophies for ability I suppose? at his school, 1 of 6 children from cohort of 90.

Strong points maths and reads excessively.

I'm slightly worried about english/VR section as on the only test paper we've completed so far he has scored poorly in that section. :?:

Have not concentrated on speed yet though will focus on this at the next lesson.

If he reads lots and has a rich vocabulary, then that is a perfect springboard for his English/VR skills, and hopefully with practice over the next few weeks he can get into his stride and feel more confident with test formats.
