I know many of you will be quietly stressing worrying about how your lovely children, performed 9 days or (however many days it since 1st July) ago, particularly on comprehension.

I wanted to share this link with you as a slightly funny reminder that however you think DD or DS may have done, they did better than this.

 This woman has hit the nail on the head, some of the homework i have had to endure has been slow torture when all i can think about is the millions of other things i should also be getting on with!

My DC were always such slow writers as they are all perfectionists and were trying to get their pen license - you only get that when your handwriting is immaculate and you no longer need to write with a pencil!!! . The temptation at times to grab the pencil off them and finish their writing for them quickly was overbearing

Its hard not to take over in the homework, rather than just let them run with it, for better or for worse.

DD Yr4 Homework today was great as I faked that I did not know how to do Greater than & Less than maths along with ordering numbers. 1/2 an hour homework, was done much quicker than usual, as she explained it all to me, while I was making the Plum crumble - its that time of year.

Lot's of crumbling............

Most of the time I don't even know what they are doing for homework. I also get really irritated if there is an expectation to help with it as what we do with the precious few hours DC have to sit down with us at home is entirely up to us. I always read with them though and keep it going as long as possible.

The flip side is they become so darned independent that when they could do with a bit of help they won't ask.

Also after the cursed 11+ tuition they won't come near me if I have a book or pencil in my hand.

The only homework my older children have ever asked for help with is RS.
I don't know how I ever gave them the impression that I could help on that one.
Fortunately the older two boys have now dropped it  leaving only dd to bug me in the evening with impossible homework tasks

It's their homework, not mine. I usually only get involved if it's something 'practical', the mess caused in the commission of which is likely to give me more grief than the assistance.

Wait till they're asking for help proof-reading their final year uni dissertations! Generally I can spot the odd punctuation error and at least pretend to understand the abstract....
