Great to hear about the bassoon rah - my DS went to Camp Hill for 6th form as an established bassoon player several years ago and was delighted to find two other 6th form players there, both girls, making some delightful bassoon ensemble playing possible. He also took A level music which was studied jointly with the girls school, and enjoyed singing too. I recall there being a high standard, with many players also in the Birmingham ensembles. He played in the orchestra for a couple of school musicals too, and there was also a joint KE concert in Symphony Hall which was a proud moment as he played the piano on stage there... . Probably less jazz/rock/pop in the average end-of-term concert than our local comp (which also has a very high standard of music) but that presumably depends on the preferences of the teachers at the time.
