Although my daughter has qualified of QMHS there are a number of reasons that are playing on my mind not to send her there. Can anyone confirm/unsubstantiate my fears

1. Lack of space
2. Lack of extra curricular activities
3. Leadership?
4.Not culturally diverse enough?

Thanks

I would be a little concerned about the leadership. I found one of the assistant head aggressive.

The place was a great little school, when I visited. The science teacher was superb as was the maths. People gush about the place enough, more than they don't.

Not culturally diverse enough? All of the grammars that I have seen don't have enough Jamaicans in them. Other than this they are diverse.

In order to help in which area do you live and what are your alternatives?

If I may ask what is the score.

In respect of the head of QM girls I am aware she was previously a deputy head at WGHS and has won a national award for leadership. She is trying hard to improve the school academically and on results it is the second best school in Walsall. It is too early to say if her leadership is going to result in the school performing on the same level as comparable girls grammar schools.Changes take time to bed in and improve results.

I do not understand question 4 about any of the grammars in the area. They are all culturally diverse the only question is to what extent. If the issue is solely about Jamaicans I have not noticed many girls at QM girls, WGHS and relatively few at KE Handsworth.

These schools are a long way from my comprehensive in West Yorkshire with large Jamaican and Asian populations. Our school Rugby League team composed of the majority of Jamaican players with me the token Asian and a token from the host community.

I agree with all points apart from diversity. I was quite frankly shocked by the lack of green areas and the catering facilities. The lack of a hall after seeing Handsworth was another minus. The deputy/assistant head I saw was unimpressive. My overall impression was too many girls in too small a space.

[qcompletly agree with previous post diversity is as good as you get !!
If I have to choose the schools in Walsall/Wolverhampton I would definitely put WGHS on top following Newport and then QMGS.
