KES - initial advice needed

Hi

My DH went to KES on a scholarship in the 80's and loved his time there and is hankering after our DS applying. In theory great but we currently live in West Yorkshire (where we have 2 excellent Grammar Schools - but not on par with KES)!

DS is currently in Year 3 and I know he is bright and its probably an environment he would do well in (he's quite competitive) but not sure about the current application/entrance exam process so looking for advice there please.

I also know they offer assisted places (we currently contribute to this fund monthly as alumni) but what are the criteria.

In addition I have a 5 year old DD - what schools are available for her in the area?

Thanks in advance

hi mum-of-two - couple of things to bear in mind, one is that there are rarely 100% remission of fees for places at KES these days so always something to pay. Also KES has probably become less competitive than it was in the 80's and it may be harder to get a place at the KE Foundation grammar schools than KES itself.

Assisted places are offered on a means tested basis to those who do well in the exam

re the schools in West Yorks - depends where you are really - there are some independents - GSAL for example and some very good state grammars - which ones have you been looking at ?

We are in Halifax so Crossley Heath and North Halifax Grammar. Both have excellent results but are lacking a little in facilities. We have good independent Grammars - Bradford is excellent (have friends who attend) and Hipperholme Grammar (my 2 currently attend the junior school of this school).
