Out of county chances for Birmingham Grammar Schools

Post by kanth369 »

Hi,

My DS got a score of 228 and we are looking for King Edwards Five ways,Bishops Valley and Ashton .We live 60 miles from all these schools .We are not in pupil premium .We don't know much about Birmingham . Are we able to get into any of these grammar schools if we apply from where we live ,which is out of county without moving in at the date of application ?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Kanth - you seem to be looking at Devon, Gloucestershire and Birmingham. Presumably you will be moving at some point!

The Birmingham Grammar schools offer places solely on score - distance has nothing to do with it. If you have a look at other threads in Birmingham you can see what sort of scores people had to get in last year.

Thanks for the reply Hermanmunster. Our priorities are Gloucestershire and Birmingham .But,we do have very less options for Gloucestershire .So we are looking for Birmingham. If the child applying for same school gets the same score I though the catchment comes into place .So we are thinking whether would have any chance?

I didn't to overcomplicate things - the distance only comes into play if it is down to the last place available so say the cutoff for a school was 228 then you would be unlikely to be offered as nearer children would get the places, however if the cutoff was lower then distance dose not come into it
