Can anyone help please as to what criteria they use to offer assisted places?

We are on a very low income so completed a form which contained all the financial information for an assisted place - however, we are told "assisted place not available".

Many thanks

I understand that the assisted places are offered to those that qualify on income grounds.

However there are a limited number of offers made and the highest scores in the exam are offered first.

A number of children are turning down offers at KES in favour of free places elsewhere. Try contacting admissions to see if they will reconsider if assisted place offers are not taken up by children with higher scores.

Hi Kefew

Thank you ever so much for your reply. We have now been offered an assisted place. So, now comes a new dilema - save that few thousand every year by sending to gramamr or should we feel grateful and send to private now that we dont have to pay full fees.

Choices ............

You could push your luck and see if there's a rejected scholarship to bridge the gap!

I have replied to your response - did you receive it? (I am trying to get the hang of this forum and still having difficulty posting)

Similarly clueless but think you have to write subject / forum title in if sending a PM. I've just tried to send you message

Hello

How does this assisted places scheme work?

Did the school relent on the same day because of your income or because someone higher up the list turned the place down?

Hi

I think the KE assisted place scheme is offered to the highest scorers so I presume that someone who was offered it turned their place down, then someone else lower down the list was offered an assisted place. Even with an assisted place (and the KE ones are VERY generous) some people feel that because of the other commitments they cannot manage the difference - fair enough, only they really understand their finances. KE would love to be able to help more kids but there is only a limited pot to go round.
