Does anyone know how classes are organised next year - peers / ad hoc / streaming.

No Streaming, I'm told pupils are allocated to the 6 classes in a secret cyclic rotational manner starting with the highest performing candidate in the tests down to the last entry candidate.

The only condition is that they deliberately keep children apart who attended the same primary school. That why all children start in the same boat and have to make new friends. Seems to work very well.

A what - have they patented the method? So - a methodical mix up to ensure no accidental clumps of higher achievers - sounds OK

Dear kenr do you know if that includes mixing the girls in an even grouping ??? When I asked they said that approx 1 third of the intake were girls .... but I personally think that this is a bog standard reply.

Not sure about this but I guess there is some mixing.

My son's year-8 class has 7 girls out of 25 which is fairly typical for that particular year intake.

Do you know kenr if how many do reject places? and is it correct you can stay on the wait list til Aug.
Just out of interest do you have to apply to be on a wait list or is it done automatically? ta

Hi confusedmom

You are automatically on th waiting list till Aug and then have to request to stay on beyond that - only sensible if you are No. 1 or 2 at that point in time.

The number of rejections varies from year to year and school to school. I know that for for Sept 2005 KECH Boys they made 114 offers for 93 places and they did go quite well into the Waiting List (by 2 marks) - but I think that was an usual year.

Best to get your friend to phone up the Foundation Office and ask a few questions about the level of historical rejections.
