No Streaming, I'm told pupils are allocated to the 6 classes in a secret cyclic rotational manner starting with the highest performing candidate in the tests down to the last entry candidate.
The only condition is that they deliberately keep children apart who attended the same primary school. That why all children start in the same boat and have to make new friends. Seems to work very well.

You are automatically on th waiting list till Aug and then have to request to stay on beyond that - only sensible if you are No. 1 or 2 at that point in time.
The number of rejections varies from year to year and school to school. I know that for for Sept 2005 KECH Boys they made 114 offers for 93 places and they did go quite well into the Waiting List (by 2 marks) - but I think that was an usual year.
Best to get your friend to phone up the Foundation Office and ask a few questions about the level of historical rejections.
