Can anyone recommend from their own experince a good tutor, our aspiration is for a daughter to go to Sutton Coldfield Grammar school.

When is the best time to start?

Thanks - Ahmed

Everyone has a slightly different opinion of when to start. Our DD managed to get a place, so I can only tell you what worked for us.....

We started about half way through year five (although if I could have my time again, I would start at the beginning of yr 5). We tried to get her a Tutor but couldn't find one (we wanted to one that was recomended, but everyone we knew who was using one, kept their tutors identity SECRET!).

We enroled her into a tutor group which she didn't like so we stopped her going.

I hadn't found this site pre-exam, but I did find other extremely good sites that offer FREE daily test and FREE online video clips of how to do certain NVR and VR (PM me if you would like the web addresses).

Apart from using these online sites, I just made sure that my DD knew EVERYTHING on the Yr6 (KS2) curriculum, and introduced her to basic ks3 stuff aswell.

I didn't find it hard to tutor her myself, the only problem is keeping a good balance (not too intense) and keeping your child motivated.

In conclusion, by the end of yr5 my DD knew and could do everthing that she was going to cover in Yr 6 (this caused problems, as she then found lessons easy and boring!).

I forgot to mention READING, get your child to read as much as possible.

Best of Luck Lottie

Hi Lottie

Thanks for your advice, it was most helpful.

I have sent a seperate PM asking for the website address for web clips on NVR and VR.

On another point, how do you go about finding out what will be covered under Yr6 (KS2) curriculum?

Similarly, my DD will be going to Year 4, how do go about finding what will be covered under the (KS2) curriculum for Year 4?

Kind Regards
Ahmed

Hi Ahmed

You can find details about the content of the National Curriculum at the QCA website http://www.qca.org,uk and specifically http://curriculum.qca.org.uk/key-stages ... index.aspx

You can also find details of the KS2 tests, marking schemes and results via the NAA web site http://www.naa.org.uk/naa_16218.aspx

Note: NAA is a subsidiary of QCA

You can also find some useful free (as well as costed) ICT resource materials at site such as curriculum online (a resource web site designed for teachers but which can be used by anyone). http://www.curriculumonline.gov.uk

In the above site used the advanced search features using KS2 as a search word.

You can also try the Gov DCSF website which has some good information for parents as well as links to some good sites and materials

http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/

Hope this helps

Thanks Lottie,
Unfortunately the PM comes up with "advertising censored"!!! Not sure why that happens in a PM?
