my dd is an August baby and will take exam for 5 ways / camp hill girls this year. I know this means she gets some extra marks for age, but how much in % should she be getting in practice papers? she is so desperate to get in as she gets lots of "swot" comments in school as she works hard and does well!!
thanks

Hi Blackwellmum

Unfortunately practice papers are not available for the KE Foundation 11+ exams so it's not possible to accurately estimate achievement in practice papers as a prediction for success in the real exam.

There are a few markers that might help though:-

1. To be confident getting through to KE 5-Ways or Camp Hill Girls, candidates typically have to achieve the 85th percentile or above in the exam. ie the top 15% of candidates.

2. Although the exams are quite different, empirical evidence suggests that scores of 85% plus in NFER type of VR, NVR or Maths exams would be an indication of being on the borderline. So by the time of the exam they should be achieving close to 90% to be confident.

3. However as you rightly mention, there is an Age Standardisation process that is applied which for the youngest children might be worth a couple of extra marks in the adjustment process. I recall that for the recall 2005 KE Foundation exam, the difference between the raw scores for the oldest and youngest candidate at a Age Standardisation Mark of 116 was about 6 marks.

Maybe fm or some other B/ham tutors might have a better view of typical benchmarks achiement levels.

Hope this helps.
