KE Grammars - Disability Discrimination Act

Not sure if parents of children who might be covered by the Act have noted the section in the 2009 admissions criteria for KE Foundations Grammars:-

Completed test registration forms must be submitted to the Foundation Office by 3 October 2008. All registration forms received at the Foundation office will be acknowledged. Children will be issued with a candidate number and allocated to a test centre (which may be any one of the five Grammar Schools or another venue used as an overflow centre).

Parents will also have to complete their home Local Authority (LA) application form before the entrance test ranking their choice of schools in order of preference. This list may contain Grammar Schools and other schools. Only the LA will know the rankings. Birmingham preference forms must be returned to the LA by 3 October 2008. Other LA’s have different deadlines.

In accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, King Edward VI Grammar Schools will consider requests for adjustments to the entrance test from parents/carers of a disabled pupil who wishes to attend the school. Parents must approach the Foundation Office with information on the child’s disability and/or Special Educational Need and will be provided with a form to complete. This must be returned to the Foundation Office, accompanied by a supporting letter from the child’s current school and any detailed medical evidence, by the third Friday in September. A specialist panel will consider the information submitted to decide whether reasonable adjustments should be made for the candidate.

Please note the timescales of the 3rd Friday in Sep't (19th) for responding and the requirement to include supporting medical evidence.
