Hi,

Can anyone compare these two schools? Do you have any experience in either of these schools? Have you got son/daughter going to SHF and what is your opinion?

Thanks
Monsoon..

Hi 'monsoon' ... my friend's DD is going to SHF in September, they preferred it as their DD is very much into dance/drama and felt this school suited her more.

For my DD, she felt SHF was too hip and trendy for her  (she prefers not to be in the spotlight - dance/drama not her cup of tea), loved the atmosphere at AHS and that it specialises in languages, something she is keen on - so for us we went with AHS.

However, DH and I had already discussed what to do if DD didn't get a place at AHS, and that would have been to send her to SHF (leaving her on the AHS waiting list). Happily for us DD did get a place at AHS :D so we didn't need to go down that road!!!

Hi Monsoon

It depends on your DD and her interests. Our first pref was single gender AHS, as AHS science results were outstanding and DD wants to be a vet, although SHF has specialist science status. Also, if your DS is keen on sports, then AHS has better facilites. Do you prefer mixed or single gender (although AHS has strong links to the boys AGS next door)? Have you visited both? We had to do two oversubscription appeals - for our first choice AHS and then SHF- you can read our feedback on the "requesting feedback from all areas" sticky. Presumably you have the propectus for both, but I strongly suggest you look at the Ofsted reports. But, we would have been for DD to go to either. You can always pm me.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.. Much appreciated.. My DD saw both schools and she prefers the AGH. We also felt AHS will suite her best.
We probably will get into AHS, but we just have to stay put at our current house for another 18 months or bit more...

Thanks
Monsoon
