moving to little chalfont - advice needed

Post by ladysanders »

Hoping to move to Little Chalfont. House we want is in catchment for Little Chalfont Primary which seems to be very good. Oldest child is a son currently in year 4.

Son 1 is bright but dyslexic - is doing ok in private school with extra specialist tuition for dyslexia, will probably be slightly above average in class if moving to state school.

First off - has anyone got experience of putting dyslexic child thru 11+ ?

And if he doesn't get into grammars - what are the alternatives? Amersham School doesn't look brilliant... not in catchment for Chalfont Community College which looks better...

On the issue of dyslexia, some adjustments could be considered for the 11+, depending on what view the authority takes regarding the extent of the problem. For example, it might be possible for question papers to be reprinted on different coloured paper and/or in larger fonts, for the answer sheets to be enlarged, for coloured overlays or filter lenses normally used by children in class to be made available in the 11+, and in exceptional circumstances for a child to have up to 25% extra time for each test. The authority will look carefully at recommendations from an appropriate professional, such as an educational psychologist, and will be interested in what adjustments are already in use in the classroom situation.

In the event of a request for special consideration being unsuccessful, and an 11+ score below the qualifying mark of 121, the matter could be looked at again by an appeal panel. See point 7:
