I spoke with my DC teacher today to support appeal application. They now tell me that DC has been struggling in school and suggested I take DC to see an educational psychologist, to see why handwriting, reading, etc is not improving.

Please help, what can I do? Is it too late to use a educational psychologist report. Appeal date is next month.
If teacher won't be that supportive do I stand a chance. HT report stated 3 for recommendation, and 2 for attitude. Please help what can I do?

really difficult question and frankly, I would be livid that they are only NOW sayiing that there might be a problem that warrants an Ed Psych evaluation.

In that case, it might be worth taking to the SENCO to see what chance there to have one conducted by a Local Authority EP - probably VERY litttle and probably long wait list.

A private EP will set you back about £450. You may well have to travel to find one who has a slot available and it can take a few days for them to write the report. If handwriting is a problem who may also want to consider an evaluation by an Occupational Therapist. Again, an NHS appointment will take at least 8 weeks.

One very annoying this to note is that if he is identified as having a clear Specific Learing difficulty while this MAY help your appeal it won't help him in Secondary School as an evaluation conducted in the 'Primary phase' is not valid in the 'Secondary Phase'. That said, it would of course inform teachers, SENCOs etc but it can't be used as evidence for exam help etc.

I do have other mitigation reasons for appeal. Should I go ahead with these reasons?

And as regards to EP, get a referral and see where that takes me, and when DC does start new school in Sept I can bring this to their attention if anything is found during the consultation

This made me laugh, we are in Bucks and we waited nearly 3 years !!!!!
