My catchment grammar schools for girls are BHS and WHS. I would like to put DCHS as my number 1 preference and the others as 2/3. I have heard a rumour that if I put DCHS as my number 1 then I forfeit my right to a place at my catchment grammar school? Is this true? I thought I put them in order of preference, irrelevant of whether or not they are my catchment school, and they would allocate my highest preference possible and I could go on the waitlist for a higher preference?

You are completely right and whoever told you this nonsense is completely wrong.

I am afraid that this sort of nonsense does circulate at this time of year, and you should double-check everything and read the Bucks CC Admissions brochure very thoroughly.
