Does anyone know what the criteria to sit the 13+?

I know for the 12+ DC needs to be a level 5 in their SAT's, but what do they do for the 13+? Do they look at the results and reports from year 7?

It's the same - but you can appeal against refusal to test. I would expect someone to be working at a good level6 at the end of Year 7 to consider sitting the 13+.

Remember also that there are likely to be few places ...

Some GS have recently changed their late testing so do check on websites of the school you are interested in.

I live in Slough so will be looking at Burnham GS. I can't understand why they want to look at the Key Stage 2 results and child needs to be a level 5. A child may have achieved a level 4 but then in Year 7 accelerates and achieves a higher level.

Its a shame you have to wat until the autumn term before you find out whether your child can be tested, otherwise how can you put them intuition?

does BGS have places? I don't think it does, so best you could hope for is a waiting list place and you would be behind anyone else on the list who better meets catchment criteria.

Is it really worth it?

If it is like the 12+ the tests aren't until February time, so plenty of time. Most children I know of who have done the 12+ have not had tuition, just a bit of practice to remind themselves of the techniques. BGS is full, but I suppose people always move on.

Has anyone had any experience with the 13+? DC achieved a top end of level 5 for maths in SATs and a level 4 (1 mark away from a level 5). Currently they are in Year 7 and on a top end of level 6 in maths and level 5 in english.

Would they look at the sats from year 6 or look at cuurent levels in year 7? If they look at year 6, is it worth doing the 13+ and if I have to appeal does anyone know what the chances are?

I am looking at BGS or BHS. Do I need to contact school or BCC?

Hi slough mum

I missed this post earlier - my apologies.

I fear that, in order to apply the same standard across the board, Level 5 in Y6 remains the benchmark. It does seem crazy, but there has to be perceived fairness in the system.

It is only my opinion, but with a single mark missing from a Level 5 in English it would be worth appealing. If you have evidence to show that your DC is now achieving even more highly among his peer group I would think it likely that an appeal would succeed. 12+/13+ panels for appeals to test do seem to conclude "let the test decide".

For those particular schools you still need to contact BCC, but please would other parents reading this thread ensure that they also read this thread concerning the changes to the 12+/13+ process in many of the remaining Bucks grammars: http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum/ ... 62&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks Sally-Anne

It is very strange why look at a child's Sats year 6 results where for the 13+ they should be looking at end of year 7 results.

I did ring BCC today and they have told me to wait until Sept 2012 when the criteria will be published on their website. They cannot as yet confirm what the criteria or what results they willl be looking at or academic ability.

Also do you know whether (from previous years) there have been places available in Year 9 for BGS and BHS?

Previously places were always available at BGS but the current years 7&8 are full so there will only be places as people leave. I don't know about BHS but I imagine it would be the same.

Has anyone with a level 4 (1 mark away from level 5) been agreed to testing from Bucks CC?

I know you can appeal but I suppose it can go either way.
