Hi All,

This is really a wonderful forum and special thanks to seniors providing such a useful information.

We have moved from slough to High Wycombe on Feb 1, 2012 and applied for the In Year School Admission CAF for my daughter on the same day ie Feb 1, 2012.

Today when I rang the Admission Team in Aylesbury, they said that they have received my application last week it will take them about 10 working days to let us know whether they have any space in the 3 schools we have listed on the CAF, otherwise they will allocate the school which is nearest to our home.

In the meantime I have bought all the books in the IPS pack , as I know the time of my daughter will be wasted in the new school selection process.

I have read teh Patricia's thread regarding the IPS , but please if she or some senior can explain me in which order to start these IPS series.

Thanks in advance.

Sonia

Hope you get a school place soon. :D

Hi Guest55,

As I have purchased the IPS books, I want to know in which sequence should I start?

Which techniques to start with at the first , and which one to leave for doing at end?

Should I first finish with all the 21 techniques and then start with the practice questions?

Any help in this regards will be highly appreciated.

Regards

Sonia

I would recommend that you start by buying a method and technique book in order to teach yourself how approach each of the questions [IPS]

http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/shop/9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... upils.html

IPS also publish a book containing a selection of each type. Before you administer your first test, teach your child the types contained in that test using the IPS additional questions book, continue this method for the first few tests.

Use tests in the following order...

1] IPS, 10 tests 50 questions, 30 minutes [shorter tests good to begin with] The First 5 tests should be cut approximately in half covering about 3/4 different types of questions, teach your child how to complete these types using the above IPS additional questions, then allow them to complete the mini test alone. Gradually build on this method until all types have been covered, then proceed with the remaining 50 question tests.

'Sonia', Patricia will probably come along soon and give her excellent advice :D however for me I literally started at the beginning ... Question Type A and read the information from the method and technique book with my DC so they understood the instructions too, then followed by a question type A practice sheet. I then moved on to Type B and so on. IPS Starter Series book, Verbal Reasoning, Book S and IPS Verbal Reasoning Additional Practice, Book C are excellent for this.

Now I'm happy my DC is confident with all the question types, I am now doing the Tutors papers (you can download these from the elevenplus shop), starting at the easiest level (1) to boost their confidence and will gradully work through to the higher level. Although I understand Tutors Level 4 and quite high and may leave those till later. Plus I am also starting on the IPS Verbal Reasoning Practice Papers, book A; these have 50 questions and cover a mix of the question types.

Once I'm happy with this level of tests I can then move on to the next level as recommended by Patricia :D

Don't also forget about vocabulary (very important for Bucks 11+). Patricia has put together some exellent word lists which I am gradually working my way through with my DC, learning the meaning of words (which may seen obvious to us but not a 9 year old) and how how these words work with other words.

Hope this is of help?

Dear Sonia

ApoIogies for not replying earlier, I have been very busy with work/tutoring/life...

By the weekend I will have edited/added to my DIY link.

Have you bought all of the IPS range? The daily tests are good publications but are not a necessity. I firmly believe it is valuable practice to use a variety of publications/authors to cover all variances within each type of question type.
