Allocations

I am obsessing about what is going to happen (bearing in mind I know I am going to have to wait a while longer to see what we end up with) - anyway - looked in the 2011 allocations

I am wondering why 3 children who qualified for SWB and were not OOC were not allocated their first preference at this school when 20 or so OOC children were allocated SWB.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I think the answer is that SWB has a catchment that is both in and out of county. If places are then awarded by distance, out of county (but in catchment) pupils may be allocated ahead of in county (and in catchment) pupils if they live closer.

Ks's explanation holds water, and SWB is not alone in that. BGS, SHF and AGS all have a catchment area that extends beyond the county's borders.

Alternatively they may have been late applicants. Late applications are considered after "timely" ones and therefore OoC children applying on time will have been given priority. The footnotes to that sheet don't mention late applicants, but I assume they are in there.
