Hi,
I'm just curious to know whether my sons maths SAT's results will be used for tier/grouping purposes at JHGS or will they do a seperate assessment when they start?

Any advice welcome :)

Many thanks!

I don't know about JHGS (but always willing to offer an opinion :D ), but most of the Bucks grammar schools don't stream for anything in year 7. Some stream in year 8 for maths. I'm sure someone who actually knows the answer will be along soon.

Don't know about JHGS but RGS definitely don't - boys are not set for Maths until Y8 by which time the school has a good idea of their strengths and weaknesses. In fact, many schools (grammars and uppers) disregard SATs results completely as they know that the primaries do nothing but train their pupils for the tests from about Christmas onwards. Unfortunately BCC still see them as essential for determining whether a child is suitable for 12+ testing  .

andyb - you are incorrect - all schools have to take note of KS2 tests as they will be judged on progress from them!

Apologies, you are right, of course :) . My comment was intended to reflect the initial question regarding SATs results and setting in Y7.
