My son is really struggling with the 'code' questions i.e type C, K, L, N, P, U. Any tips?

Hi MelW

My son initially found these tricky. This is what I done.

I used to write out a couple of the questions(from a test paper) in very large print on a large sheet of paper. It may seem silly but the bigger the print the better as this helps them see the pattern more clearly. It also gives more working out space. Make sure you write the alphabet out too in big print. Let him work them out confidently before moving on even if it means repeating the same questions.

Also please don't take this the wrong way but do make sure YOU have worked them out first. I admit I struggled with them myself at first(I tutored my son) and so it proved more difficutl for him until I had mastered them which I did using the same method.

Hope this helps.

Thanks MelX. I will give it a try. I think he knows how to do them he just cannot seem to concentrate for more than a nano-second at the moment!

Hi Mel W

"He", being a boy, does not surprise me by being unable to concentrate for more than a nano-second!

I would recommend the Tutors CDs in general, but I don't think they are as effective for the Code questions, as pencil and paper are really the best technique.

Maybe you could use the CDs as an incentive to get him to work hard on the code questions?

Best wishes
