For OOC, do schools give preference to applications that have put them as a first preference, all other criteria being equal. E.g. The trend has been for Aylesbury high school to give places to all who apply. Does this include those who have put Aylesbury as the second option?

The school does not know where you have ranked them. All they know is that you have applied for a place and assess your DC against their published admissions criteria, such as score, distance etc. Where your ranking comes into play is when your LA is working out which school to offer you - if your DC qualifies for more than one you will be offered the one highest on your ranked list.

...although if you go through an oversubscription appeal, interestingly enough the IAP (and therefore the school) will see which position you put them in. I believe that they are supposed to not take this into account, but they see it nonetheless.....but I agree with the previous correspondent who pointed out that for the allocations, they do not know

You must put the school you want first.
