Alternatively it's far easier to be outstanding when your school roll is full and parents are very happy to give quite sizeable donations. Your pupils are all above average and in general from involved, engaged, largely middle class families. Compared to upper schools where many don't have full rolls, have a much more diverse range of students with a more complex range of needs (sen and eal) and have to students coming to them working on levels of anything from 1 to 6!
Yes the grammars are fab but considering how the cards are stacked in their favour they blooming well should be! We have some amazing upper schools such as Great Marlow and should celebrate them!
Wouldn't it be nice to send all of our children to outstanding schools together rather then split up friendships etc based on an arbitrary 75 mins of testing when they are 10?

This is an interesting but shocking comparison. Bucks CC education dept should hang its head in shame at this roll call. It repeatedly says of its selective education system how it provides a first-class education in all its schools. How the secondary selection process allocates the right school for the right child, blah, blah blah. This quite clearly shows it doesn't.
The fact is the majority of Bucks state school children are allotted a school that either requires improvement or is inadequate (with one or two exceptions in the upper school list). The majority of Bucks school children do not qualify for the outstanding grammar schools and it seems the new selection process is making it even harder for them to qualify with all the educational tourism going on (talked about in other threads).
How can a county (or anyone) be happy that the majority of its secondary school age children are at schools that require improvement or are inadequate?
This list should be given to the journalist who wrote that biased article in The Observer a few weeks back which claimed the new style test "thwarted pushy parents" and see what they make of it.

I agree Lillie, although I would add that there are a lot of older judgements in the GS list, and only one under the new inspection framework. Generally speaking, the better the outcome, the longer the interval to next inspection. Some of those GSs have gone many years without inspection and still hold their last judgement. It's quite possible that under the new framework, some of those judgements would not be as glowing. Yes - Ofsted changed dramatically in September 2012 - how many of the GS have been inspected since then?
You cannot compare an 'old' outstanding to the new measure especially as some of these old inspections were 'reduced' tariff which meant no teaching was seen!
How is Bucks CC responsible? Many of these Upper schools are Academies so they don't have to let anyone from the LA through their doors; in the days when they were LA schools most of them were 'good'.

I take your point, Guest55, in that the most of the upper schools are now academies and not directly reporting to the CC.
I take umbrage, however, at the council continually propagating the myth that the selection process is defensible and in the best interests of all the county's children.
To quote from the head teachers' manual:
"The object of the selection exercise is to place every pupil in a school that is well matched to their learning needs recognising that Buckinghamshire provides a first class education in all types of secondary school".

Lillie - so what do you think the LA can do? These Uppers chose to become Academies and cut off contact and they have not improved ... in fact a number have got worse.

This is the stance the council has always taken. It has not changed its wording since these schools became academies. The council has always defended the system. But It should stop putting out unfounded statements about how his system is for the benefit of all the children when it clearly isn't.
