Which questions came up on thursday's paper?

Hi all,

I know that we shouldn't just trust our children's memory as to which questions came up on thursday, but I thought it would be useful at least to pool ideas on here? I have a list from my son which I'll happily post - I thought between us we could maybe have a go at predicting next wednesday's paper (I know, I know...one should be prepared, it's standardized...thereare always 2 Z's!!) but hey...can't hurt can it!?

cheers

Er, it can hurt actually. Many children have yet to take the first test so please keep quiet about predicting second paper questions.
Thanks

Sorry I beg to differ, the tests will be prepared as pairs of papers for Bucks. If a child has not sat a test yet due to ill health etc. they will not sit the same test pack - so it will make no difference as the questions will be allocated differently.

Why would keeping quiet possibly hinder anyone about to take either paper 1 or 2 ? Surely it's only elimination and even then the question was intended somewhat with a pinch of salt.

You are completely wrong. Not only will a child sit the same test paper if they are ill (and missed taking it with the others) but there are hundreds of out of county children still to sit exactly the same papers over the next few weeks or so.

OK so the information I have been given is incorrect if you are right. However I do not see how that could ever be a secure system of testing - there is so much room for abuse - and yes a question like this could be seen to lead to that abuse, I only posted it because I had been given different info. from our school head - but more importantly I was only doing on here what many many parents are doing at school pick-up and over the phone to each other. Besides I still don't think discussing question type allocation affects anyone yet to sit a paper - would it change their revision? I doubt it. Does it give unfair advantage? I doubt it.

Dear Guest

ALL children sit the same 2 tests, whether its because they were ill or are out of county.
.
I agree many parents/children can work out what types will come up in the second test, no plroblem.

However the unfair advantage can be seen, with the children taking the tests at a later date.....If it is discussed on here, they will have been offered on a plate the types to revise for on the FIRST test, something your child and many others could NOT predict. The child would revise 12 types instead of 21.

The best thing to do with your child is to go through the familiarisation sessions and ask them to tick the types that came up on Thursday, most children are able to do this.

Hi Patricia,

Thanks for the clarification; what interests me is that it a friend of hours was told the opposite as her son could not attend due to ill health by the school. I just asked her to clarify to me.

I take your point about unfair advantage however my counter was simply that there are 21 types and they all come up with just a few days in between. I couldn't see how this could skew revision much.

I guess my original post was meant to be light hearted with a sense of community rather than inciteful. But I guess the unfair advantage will lie in the plethora of email lists and coffee shop conversations!

Hi Guest

It would be just as unfair if those children taking the test at a later date were given a different paper, as no two papers can ever be of an identical standard of difficulty.

If they took a different paper, their results would not be comparable with those who sat the test on Thursday.

It might occur to a few parents to start ringing round asking which questions came up, but would you tell them? After all, it could mean that your child loses out on a school place because their child was better prepared!

Ok this has gone somewhere I didn't intend. The point about the test being different will get us into test standardization and there are many tests that offer test packs that are of the same standard - but that's not the main point I wish to address, if someone rang me up to ask me which questions came up would I help..? ABSOLUTELY!

That's what a community is for in my mind. But I'll leave this now.

Hi Everyone,
Please stop having a debate on what Types of questions came and which didn't. I strongly prefer the Child should be prepared for Hardest paper that comes their way. It is unfair to Kids who have prepared themselves for over a year giving their complete dedication towards this exams to achieve this goal. And making it easier for them who have hardly put any efforts and getting information from people to get their child to work out the questions that appeared on the Test on Thursday.

Please I respect every parents views towards their Kids, My Child at times woke up in the Night in Sleep, asking questions on Compound word list and similar meanings. This is because he has been working hard for more than a year for Place in Grammar School and he knows what it means to him.

Patricia, Sally-Ann are the two who have been advising people what is best for a Child and Parents throughout the Forums. So Please take their advise.

B Regards
