And some of them don't have any ? Haven't seen any for Burnham grammar. Am I mistaken ?Sally-Anne wrote:Yes, a couple of them require residence from 1st April of the year preceding the proposed admission - in this case, 1st April 2014.berks_mum wrote:Which schools are you targeting ? Could someone please let me know if one can move into the catchment area after results are out?

121 is set on the top 30% or so sitting the test. So able children taking the test with no intention of taking a place are included in the 30% meaning the bar for 121 is higher than it needs to be.When I went to Kendrick to pick my DD I came across many parents from Bucks. Assuming their DDs pass, take a place in Kendrick and their DD's have also sat Bucks, how will this affect Bucks Standardisation ?

Re: 2014 Bucks exam
There are two areas to the south west of bucks that are in catchment for Kendrick still I believe. Having no girls and no super brainy kiddies I Kendrick is not on my agenda.
Like guest 55 said, genuine applicants, reasonable travel distances that do not affect participation in school teams or socialising....can ds2 go to a social in Surrey....No!
Like i said there is room for all genuine applicants from reasonable distances and we welcome them with open arms!

I live in catchment for Kendricks - they have a huge catchment area think everywhere around Marlow is in it.
My dd's year 5 and we have no intention to sit Kendricks as it's a pig of a journey. I imagine there's always been a number of people who are in catchment for both and sit both, I shouldn't think this years any different.

Re: 2014 Bucks exam
Do you know how many sit without any intention at all of taking a bucks place in any circumstance? Is this an issue peculiar to bucks or will it be a problem in kent too?
Re: 2014 Bucks exam
That's another topic in itself but as a local, I have a big issue with Kendrick school catchment for an intake of just 96 girls. We have one grammar school in Reading but welcome our surrounding counties with open arms

Re: 2014 Bucks exam
I was really shocked when my friend from flackwell heath opted to send her girl to Kendrick instead of wycombe high. A fifteen minute bus journey v journey from he*l?
Agreed it has a weirdly large catchment area for such few places, presumably it is based on the 75 minute advisory maximum journey times? By map it's not too far, but the big A4 roundabout takes half an hour to get round in itself in rush hour.
We are so old fashioned in our household we go to Reading about once a year for rugby and occasionally for various days out (we went to the bayeaux tapestry replica) and we moan about the upcoming journey...stock up on travel sweets and make sure we have a story tape. It's more of a chore to get to than Oxford!
Son number two has a boy in his John hampden class from Reading, needless to say the lad is already disgruntled. His mum works in wycombe apparently, so he shares her daily grind.

Re: 2014 Bucks exam
Ah but by the same token SWBGS includes parts of Berkshire in it's catchment area so I think it would even out. I honestly don't know anyone who would travel into Reading rather then going to a not too shabby school on their doorstepsonasona wrote:That's another topic in itself but as a local, I have a big issue with Kendrick school catchment for an intake of just 96 girls. What I was trying to find out was, percentage/ratio of OOCs vs ICs who have passed but are not taking a place in Bucks Grammars. Don't know if this stat is available ?
Re: 2014 Bucks exam
I honestly was under the impression that the October 1st deadline for address would tackle the issue - i.e. exclude those that do not come under catchment for any of those 13 schools.
But with my little understanding, I guess it's far too complicated to exclude at standardisation stage!
We just hope those that rely only on Bucks schools (either from Bucks or from areas like MK where there is no choice of grammar schools) are not heavily affected.

Guest55 wrote:mystery - no-one is objecting to local children living within sensible travelling distance sitting Bucks 11+; that isn't the issue.
It's the people that sit having no intention of taking a place - these skew the standardisation.
