new grammar school

I hadn't previously seen this so many thanks for posting.
It does fit with something Dominic Grieve MP said during the Conservatives 'grammargate' episode earlier this summer when he hinted that a new grammar school may be needed for Bucks. However because he is the MP for Beaconsfield, I assumed he meant one was needed there.....

This is attention seeking/PR noise by local politicians.
"21,000 homes may be built in Aylesbury within the next 20 years"...
...and yet a Bucks CC Councillor is talking about the potential need for a new GS and 2 Uppers now, when the Aylesbury schools are already undersubscribed and the birth rate is falling.
These are the sort of press releases that give the tabloids a bad name!
It will only stir up the anti-Grammar faction if this debate starts years or decades ahead of the possible need for any of these additional schools.
IMHO

Hi Hugh
The article states the following:
Were the article based on a need for new schools due to the level of currently agreed development I would have no argument with the discussion. However, it is not, as the article goes on to make clear:
The article states the following:
New homes are being built now, but NOT the 21,000 on which this article is based, nor the claims of the councillor demanding 3 new schools.More than 21,000 new homes are being earmarked for the town and surrounding area over the next 20 years and the council said two upper schools and one grammar "might be required".
Were the article based on a need for new schools due to the level of currently agreed development I would have no argument with the discussion. However, it is not, as the article goes on to make clear:
Sally-Anne"We are at the very early stages of the planning process and much will depend on what type of housing developers apply to build in future, and subsequent requirements for school places as a result."
