Re: First Preferences for Bucks Grammars on CAF
Thanks for posting this Sally-Anne. Can anyone tell me what that might mean for AGS being +76?

That's just the change from 2015.MrsGrylls wrote:Thanks for posting this Sally-Anne. Can anyone tell me what that might mean for AGS being +76?
The number you need to note is 240 so 54 boys [240-186] won't get their first choice of GS.
Re: First Preferences for Bucks Grammars on CAF
Potentially more if some who put other schools as their 1st choice don't get that but come higher up the admissions criteria for AGS eg a catchment child who put AGS 2nd choice but didn't get their first choice would get AGS place before an ooc who put it 1st choice iyswim
Re: First Preferences for Bucks Grammars on CAF
That's true - places are allocated on distance - but there's bound to be people who put AGS first who won't get it.
Re: First Preferences for Bucks Grammars on CAF
Thanks both - makes sense. I realised as soon as I posted that without knowing the origins of the 240 applicants, it's pretty hard to draw any conclusions!

Please can the above be interpreted? What does PAN mean?Sally-Anne wrote:I do indeed - the comparison of 2015 with 2016 is as follows:

Re: First Preferences for Bucks Grammars on CAF
PAN = Planned Admission Number
The figures are an indication of whether the school is likely to be more or less in demand this year than last year, and therefore whether the Allocation Distance might increase or decrease.
So, taking the example of AHS (Aylesbury High School), there are 16 more first preferences this year. Last year the school offered places up to 15.881 miles away. That distance is therefore likely to reduce a little this year.
It's not an exact science by any means, but it gives an early indication of the likelihood of getting a place at any given school.

Sally-Anne, sorry if this should be obvious, but how do we know at this stage what children put down as their first choice?
Also, when you gave SWB as an example (saying it will likely be a similar distance to 2014, ie out of area by 4 miles) - am I right in thinking that that was before they changed the distance measurement and was as crow flies (so in new calculation would be 6 rather than 4 miles as by road)?
Thank you.

The preference data comes from the LA - they input choices into the computer.
Distance is the primary factor and you are allocated the highest preference school that can offer a place ie not necessarily your first choice as you might be too far away.
Straight line distance was used in 2014 I think - it's all guess work as we don't know where people live.

Straight-line distance was used from 2013 for all schools except Becky High. (They caught up with the rest in 2014.)
