Hi,

Please would anyone have any information on the following two questions?

1. Are the question patterns, type of exam all the same as last 3 years or is there any change? Where can we find a confirmation of this?

2. The weighted score for 3 individual areas, I hear are 50%, 30% and 20%. Is there any minimum score required in each of them? Again, where can we find more information on this please?

There is also a leaflet in the Transfer Test which can be downloaded - it's just the total score that needs to be 121 or more for qualification.

Hi, Thank you so much. I am unable to locate anything specific to 2017 entry, does that mean it's not yet confirmed about the pattern of the testing process for 2017 entry?

If the total score has to be 121 or more, is it not bad if a child gets very good score in VR and Maths and literally very low marks in NRV? Really confused with this and if you could point me to the exact place where this is explained, that would be really helpful. Truly appreciate your time.

Your child’s scores from the two
Transfer Test papers will be added
together and expressed as a
Standardised Secondary Transfer Test
Score (STTS).
The STTS will be the sum of the
following:
• 50% of the standardised score for
the verbal sections
• 30% of the standardised score for
the numerical sections
• 20% of the standardised score for
the non-verbal sections
If a child’s STTS is 121 or more they
are automatically qualified for grammar
school. We anticipate that 33% of
children will get a STTS of 121 or
more.

A recent parent of a Transfer Test child might be better placed but from what I've read you get the three components and a total - it's the total that is important.

I believe that is right - you receive confirmation of the STTS and also an Age Standardised Score and Weighted Standardised Score both broken into verbal, maths and non-verbal scores. The most important score is the 121 STTS, but I think the Age Standardised Scores becomes relevant if you have to go to review/appeal. Our DS took the test in 2014, so if any newer parents know it has changed then please correct me.

My ds took the test in 2013 and my dd last year and the way the results were presented had changed!

The latest results have a load of blurby stuff on the front and a big box in which it's written in bold [**** Secondary Transfer Test Score is xxxxx] (121 or above is qualified - as has been said many times you're either qualified or not - 161 is no better then 121).

On the back are various notes and also the results for the various sections - first of all non weighted and then the 3 areas with the weightings applied.

Back in 2013 there was a box on the front containing the weighted score for each section and the Secondsry Transfer Test Score.

It is also worth noting that the scores for each section are given to two decimal places but the STTS is given with no decimal places (I believe it is always rounded down).

In both cases on the front it says child's name, dob and primary school.

All scores given are age standardised - no raw scores are given.
