Not unexpected, and going the same way as Torbay. Although it's just "consultation" at this stage, the word on the ground is that it will ultimately be adopted. I like what I've seen of CEM; erd'n pr'nounced "kem" down yere mind so they vocab bits might tezduz!

That just leaves the Plymouth GSs as a question mark; anyone here up to speed on that, since a Google search doesn't highlight any changes?

Dear Caring + Curious Parents,

There are 2 interesting developments in the CGS.

1st, the New Ranking System, 1st implemented in 2013 Test, has resulted in more girls being admitted. (I was advised by other CGS parents)

It could be because girls tend to be better in Reading, Writing etc. and the New Ranking System requires the English paper to be given marks (i.e. NOT just Pass or Fail) AND the ranking has been changed to based on the total marks of VB + Maths + Eng (i.e. NOT just VB + Maths only)

2nd, only 49 candidates were in Category A in the 2014 Test, when it was about 85 for each of the preceding 3-4 years (Again, I was advised by parents receiving the 11+ result )

Does this mean either the Test has become significantly more difficult (i.e. much harder to pass ALL 3 papers) or candidates are more specialised? (i.e.many could pass 2 papers only - excellent in Eng but below average in Maths or vice versa - resulting in more Category B?)

Good luck to those planning to take the test in Oct 2015.

Best wishes

You are wrong about the category A figures. It was 66 in 2013 (my child was in category A) and about 90 in 2012 (a friend's child was in category A).

Dear Respectful + Peaceful Parents,

Trust that you all had a wonderful Xmas and a joyful New Year.

I did a bit research myself rather than relying on hearsay, and can now confirm the following :

Category A for 2012 Test (Entry Sept 2013) = 95

Category A for 2014 Test (Entry Sept 2015) = 49

(Please refer to the below 2 Emails to me and my friend)

Have another great year with your great family.

Best wishes
Terence

That's interesting - only 6 Category B kids this time may fail to get a place IF all in Cat A and cat B apply (some may not). Last year, there were 136 kids in cat A+cat B (66 and 70) (so potentially 16 kids without a place).

I'm still not convinced this means they need to change the test though.

Every grammar school's headteacher seems to be 'dreaming' of putting a 'tutor proof' 11+ test in place at their school.

The Reality : No test is 'tutor proof'.

Remember how we as a student were being 'tutored' to pass our university interview?

Remember how we as a job hunter were being 'tutored' to pass our job test/assessment?

The Reality : Every top school is 'tutoring' its students to get better grades in GCSE and A Level.

[Edited by moderator]

It's never about how hard the test is, but about how hard we, the child and the parent, try our Best - all about Attitude.

Remember : 1 test does not 'Make All' or 'End All' - with the Right Attitude, 1 is to have All....... in the end.

Cheers
Terence
