Grammar school advice in Essex
Hi - we maybe relocating to Chelmsford area and would like advice on grammar schools for girls and boys (have both) and transport. How far do children travel from that area? Which is the best area for grammar schools and primary schools.etc.. Any info would be great. Thanks
The Chelmsford and the Colchester grammars are all excellent, appearing very highly in the government and broadsheet league tables. The passmark is very high and the competition very stiff (top 5% academically). The Southend and Westcliff schools take children with a significantly lower passmark (top 25% academically) if you live within the borough of Southend. Otherwise the marks required are still lower than the Chelmsford schools so they are a good back up option.
The Essex 11+ is tougher than the Kent test, which does mean that, at the top end, it is more of a test of academic ability rather than accuracy.
