special need and grammar schools

I have a son in year 5. 18 months ago he was diagnosed with severe dyslexia and dysgraphia and has no pleasure putting work on paper for more than 10 minutes at a time. He is getting very little help at primary school and I have been his main support, carrying out specialist dyslexia programmes with him so that he is now more able to demonstrate his potential. He enjoys learning and has superb long term memory. His comprehension is excellent....but I don't know whether it is in his best interests to try to prepare him for a grammar school. The educational psychologist who diagnosed him pointed out that his IQ rating made him a grammar school candidate. Does anyone out there have experience of special needs help in grammar school or is it a sink or swim environment? We live in Essex and so far I have not seen a set of exams specific for Essex. What is the CSSE and how do I contact them for the three years of past papers?

Thank you in advance for any help.
