Just wondering if anyone had feedback on today's late sitting. My son sat it today and said the english was virtually impossible. Anyone else??

No feed back I'm afraid but if it was hard for him you can usually assume that it will have been hard for the others. The paper will then be standardised so it won't make any difference. Do you know what text he had - I could add it to the general list.

Are we allowed to say the text on the forum?

There shouldn't be a problem. I recommended not mentioning the text with the main sitting as a parent had told me that it would be the same paper. Having checked with the CSSE that this was not the case it really does not matter.

Hopefully you will be able to relax now and enjoy having your little boy back full time.

My DS found the English in the first sitting virtually impossible too. He said he didn't really have a clue what it was about and just guessed!

The first paper was Bleak House. Horribly difficult for ten year olds to wrestle with. Not a book I've ever read but then I'm not fond of Dickens. DS knew this would be his worst paper so wasn't surprised to find it difficult.

An insanely adult passage is what we have come to expect from the Essex English paper. Can anyone say what was used in the second paper? I bet it was no better.

DS did say that there were more marks this year for punctuation. That, at least, is something. :)

The second paper was also Dickens and was written by the same people.

I'm new to this site and wonder if anyone can help? My son sat 11+ reserve date in Essex and just wondered how everyone else got on?

He found the English v hard and the VR and Maths medium. I know the text for the English paper, am I allowed to say? :?:

Hi Zeta,

Welcome to the forum!

I think it should be ok to say. There aren't any more sittings of the exam, so there's no chance of an unfair advantage to anyone.

We already know from moving that it was Dickens. I'm betting it wasn't Oliver Twist or A Christmas Carol! Something a bit more obscure, I reckon!

Thank you! Apparently it was Hard Times by Dickens, my son found it very difficult. I know the Nov 21st was Bleak House, and understand from friends that their children found it difficult too.
