Son is under the impression he HAS to do 2 extra curricular activities - is this correct?
PE uniform - got the list today for PE kit but what PE shoes do they need to have??
My son is studying at KEGS. Your son can do as many as he likes or as little as he likes providing the activities are in his year group. However, clubs such as science fusion club and chess club are quite popular.
White PE shoes which are non slip and non marking for PE lessons. Ruby/ Football boots for games. Hope the info helps.

got a ton of stuff throught the post yesterday (kegs)
how do you know how much stuff to order and do you need one of everything , for example do you have to buy a rugby shirt , is rugby optional or compulsory , my boy would definitely rather cricket or football but i guess thats grammar schools !
Sure you will get some answers specific to Kegs soon but in general they have to follow NC for games/PE the same as everything else so choice has to be very limited.
This was a while ago now, but at CRGS only those boys who were considerd so bad at Rugby it was dangerous for them to be playing were sent off to play football
Also a few years ago now - they had an OFSTED inspection that criticised the emphasis on Rugby to the exclusion of football so had to introduce more football.
What usually happens is there will be different games in different terms - would imagine rugby will be the Autumn term as this is when inter-school matches are played. Might get to play football in the Spring term or possibly during PE lessons. Not sure if KEGS do hockey?
Probably cricket in the summer term & athletics in PE sessions.
Post KS3 he might get more choice
Re rugby shirts etc - there might be a second hand shop at school run by PTA. Worth checking it out for games kit (even if just for spares) as they get messed up/lost with unfortunate regularity!
Oh & dont forget the gum shield - they are not allowed to play without one.

Yes, it can be quite daunting to look at the long list. Anythings with school badge on can be only bought from Kegs.chelmsford dad wrote:how do you know how much stuff to order and do you need one of everything , for example do you have to buy a rugby shirt , is rugby optional or compulsory , my boy would definitely rather cricket or football but i guess thats grammar schools !
Rugby is compulsory, they also do football as well as cricket ( I have to ask my son because he is really keen on cricket, but I am not 100% sure he does it in Summer at school or Kegs Old Chelmsfordian).
Regarding rugby gear, my son never worn the stiff cotton navy overhead tracksuit once. I bought his white shirts and black trousers from M&S because they fit my son better. I must admit I like the junior blazer a lot because the boys look very smart wearing it. Hope the info helps
Edit. KB, good point forget about the gum shield. Kegs does not offer hockey. Indeed they do different games at different term in Kegs as well.

My son is not a keen rugby player, may be because of his petite size?? He was not very happy before he had a go, but said not too bad after the first few Rugby lessons. If he has a choice, he will definitely play cricket every lesson.chelmsford dad wrote:hes not going to be too happy about the rugby but will have to give it a go , he seems relaxed about it all , certainly more than we have been

The induction day in July will tell the boys and the parents more about the extra activities offered. I think kegs realize that some boys do take a rather long journey home, so there are some lunch clubs which they can join but of course it also means a very quick lunch to be consumed.TweetyPie wrote:We got our pack yesterday and it was very exciting. I re-read all the material but didn't see anything abuot the extra activities. How do we find out about these? My son will be catching the coach home - so I want him to do the extra activities but we may be limited to "during the school time". Is this possible? And do we sign up to them in September?
Thanks!
The clubs are most likely first come first served. Therefore, join the clubs that you are interested soon in Sept especially those very popular ones such as science fusion, chess club etc
