My daughter's teacher has told her she won't get extra marks as she is a September birthday. I thought this wasn't the case anymore -please put me out of my misery - do they take age into account?

Age is not taken into account. It's mentioned somewhere else on the forum. Sorry, can't remember where.

Thanks Karen, the reason I ask is that I she seems a bit jumpy and tells me that the whole class 'seems odd' , guess it's not just the parents who are feeling it. Would rather the teacher hadn't said anything.

For the teacher to say something like that to your daughter is appalling. Is the whole class waiting 11+ results? My son is also a September birthday. Fortunately, his teacher hasn't mentioned 11+ to him. But then, she wouldn't, as his school doesn't support 11+. There are only 4 children in his year who have taken the test (2 boys and 2 girls).

Hi Karen, I think about a third have taken it and it seems the teacher happened along a discussion about school places between my daughter and two friends ( 1 taking 1 not),asked them which school they were hoping for and then told her to bear in mind that she needed 2% more than those who were 'in the younger cohort'. Does the teacher know something?do they have connections to one of the grammars - I believe so. So am I totally paranoid thinking the teacher knows and is 'softening the blow' or just ill-informed?

Essex 11+ for Chelmsford County High School for Girls, King Edward 6th Grammar School (Chelmsford boys), Southend High Schools for Girls/Boys,

This was posted some considerable time ago and seems definite that age plays no part in marks achieved. If so, this will be good news for some and bad news for others - either way, I think Tess holds the answers for most of us...!? (I must read that book!)

Oh, I'd forgotten about Tess! Still want to know why teacher made reference to age, any thoughts?

I know someone who works in a secondary and they do know who is on the list but can't say although it's not impossible that the senior management team may discuss with close family who maybe connected to primary education, I'd hope not but is it human nature???
